Our Mission Statement

Nishmah exists to promote and enrich the lives of girls and women from within the spectrum of the St. Louis Jewish community through

educational, spiritual and social programming.  Nishmah serves as an additional avenue for girls and women to be more engaged and supported in Jewish life,

thus strengthening the larger community.

Our mission will be fulfilled through:

  • Creating programming that builds bridges throughout the Jewish community
  • Providing services that enable existing organizations to develop and strengthen their women's programming and leadership
  • Serving as a community resource for Jewish women's interests

Nishmah is Hebrew for "We will listen"

Nishmah is a new approach to Jewish community and leadership, striving to strengthen and empower the spirit of girls and women.
Nishmah believes that women have unlimited wisdom and counsel to offer the Jewish community.  Nishmah is also committed to community partnerships
with other Jewish communal organizations and synagogues.  It is through such partnerships that Nishmah believes the Jewish community can best meet the
evolving needs of girls, women, and the larger community.   Read more

Nishmah's Upcoming Programming:

FYI: Faithful Youth Impact

Monday February 15 from 9:30am-12:00pm at the Hindu Temple of St. Louis (725 Weidman Rd, 63011)

For high school students, both male and female

Nishmah and Interfaith Partnership/Faith Beyond Walls are thrilled to be collaborating again to bring high school students, both male and female and of various faiths, together to learn from each other and to impact their communities through meaningful service.

The theme at this second and final session will be "Civic Responsibility."  We will get together to engage in a hands-on project and discussion to promote service in the community with a special focus on addressing the current situation in Haiti.

There is no cost to attend the session, but please RSVP to Simone either by phone (314-862-2777) or email (simone@nishmah.org).

Beyond Hamentaschen: Cooking for Purim!
Tuesday February 16 from 7:00-9:00pm at Traditional Congregation (12437 Ladue Road, 63141)

We are excited to have both Rabbi Brigitte Rosenberg and Jewish Educator Cyndee Levy facilitate a gustatory evening to get your mind and stomach ready for Purim.

A Persian flair will be woven into the foods, and we will explore some "hidden" stories of the Purim tale.  For example, did you know that Esther was a vegetarian in the palace?  We guarantee that you will learn, enjoy, and gain some quick and elegant skills to add spice and originality to your Purim meal . . . and beyond!   All women in the community are invited to attend.

Participation fee: $18 (includes tasting too!) made payable to Nishmah (P.O. Box 11566, Clayton, MO 63105).  Please RSVP either by phone (314)862-2777 or email nishmah@msn.com prior to the program.
